Ethical Companies for the Modern Woman

Companies the Modern Woman Can Be Proud Of

We believe that part of being a Millennial is being as responsible of a consumer as possible. One way to do that is to shop from ethical companies. One of the worst industries in terms of human rights violations and working conditions is clothing. We would like to highlight some companies and nonprofits that are doing amazing work to improve the world, as well as offering great products to consumers.

Below are the companies we are putting in the spotlight today:

  1. Krochet Kids Intl.

This nonprofit makes beautiful women’s, men’s, and children’s clothing and accessories.

The company was founded by Travis, Stewart, and Kohl after they realized the power that paying people in developing nations a living wage can have on their lives and their families. Their products are now made in Uganda and Peru. They are empowering women in these countries with the assets, skills, and knowledge to pull out of poverty. Their goal is to create long lasting, sustainable, and positive change in these women’s lives. Every product they make is hand signed by the person who made it. You can even visit their profile and learn about their story! Evidence of how this company’s program is improving women’s lives are a steady income, savings increases, healthier families, physical abuse decreases, gender equality increases, and more children attending school. These are just a handful of indicators Krochet Kids measures to make sure they are bringing about positive change in the world.

2. Bead & Reel

bead & reel is an ethical boutique. Sica Schmitz founded Bead & Reel out of a desire for fashion-forward clothing that was also vegan and made with humanitarian values in mind. She couldn’t find a company that met her needs during her time as a Hollywood Costume Designer, so she decided to make the company herself.

Some of the key aspects of bead & reel are:

  • Fair Trade

  • Made in America

  • Organic

  • Recycled

  • Up-cycled

  • Zero Waste

  • Vegan

  • Female Founded

  • Giving Back

All of their products are eco-friendly, cruelty-free, and sweatshop-free. What a perfect match for the Modern Woman!

3. Nisolo

This company offers women’s and men’s shoes, accessories, and bags. Nisolo’s vision is, “To return fashion to what it once was: about people, art, and valuing the creator just as much as the customer.”

There are three key concepts to Nisolo, as found on their website:

1. Intentionally Designed

”We believe in effortless style and versatile design that complement your lifestyle.”

2. Ethically Made

”All Nisolo producers are offered beyond fair trade wages, benefits, and a healthy working environment.”

3. Fairly Priced

”We sell directly to you. No middlemen needed, so you receive high quality at a fair price.”

Nisolo was founded in 2011 by Patrick and Zoe. Patrick took a development job in Trujillo, Peru, where he realized that the greatest challenge for local shoemakers was to bring their product to a global market. Thus the idea was born for a fashion label that was committed both to ethical practices and the wellbeing of its producers. Zoe brought her fashion industry experience to the table and Nisolo was born.
